I applaud what you're doing here--I value books, and reading, and learning, and the exchange of ideas.

Please give Feed another chance. While I will agree with you that Feed is not for young kids, teenagers respond very well to the themes and motifs of the novel, and to disregard it because it contains profanity and some adult themes is to miss the point entirely. The novel was a runner-up for the 2002 National Book Award, and its message about the proliferation of technology and its effect on young people is more topical now than ever, when many teens carry smartphones, spend hours on the internet, and are increasing being diagnosed with ADD and social anxiety disorders. Anderson's foresaw some of the sinister effects of tech ubiquity, and to say his book has no worth because it has the F word in it is dangerously dismissive and narrowminded, and a person who writes that she loves books should know the dangers of limiting exposure to ideas.

Have you heard of paperbackswap.com? It's a place where you can swap books with other people all across the country! It's by far my favorite place to go to get new used books to read, since I can't get to mckay's easily!
