While I will agree with you that Feed is not for young kids, teenagers respond very well to the themes and motifs of the novel, and to disregard it because it contains profanity and some adult themes is to miss the point entirely.  The novel was a runner-up for the 2002 National Book Award, and its message about the proliferation of technology and its effect on young people is more topical now than ever, when many teens carry smartphones, spend hours on the internet, and are increasing being diagnosed with ADD and social anxiety disorders.
